Learning to play the acoustic guitar can be incredibly fun and great hobby. Don't worry about having to pay for lessons as there are plenty of instructions online for free. You won't be playing Stairway to Heaven on your first lesson but you can get to that point in no time at all. If you need more instruction, there are plenty of DVDs to learn to play guitar in the comfort of your own living room.
Before you play a note, take a few minutes to learn about your new guitar. Read up on the many ways to play a chord and all the different fret hand positions to play them. If you understand the techniques while you attempt them, it will help you get the notes right faster. You should learn all the different parts of the guitar from the head to the bridge. Learn how to tune the guitar and how to hold the pick. Start by playing a scale and dive into a nice easy song.
Practice makes perfect. If you want to get to the point where you can play your favorite guitar solo, you'll need to put in the time. The more you practice, the better hand coordination and positioning you'll achieve to make the perfect sounds from your guitar. It may take some time and frustration, but even the best of us can take a while to get each note perfectly right.
